Date and Location
9-12 May 2016 Cluj-Napoca, Romania
As the codesprint will take place Monday-Thursday, you can consider taking advantage of one of the weekends to explore Transylvania. The Romanian hosts will be happy to help you plan an itinerary.
Travel: Cluj has direct flights from Dortmund, Köln, Nuremberg, Basel, Eindhoven, Malmo ( with Wizzair ) and München ( with Lufthansa ).
Several relevant connections from Germany for the dates of the sprint:
Sun 8 May - Sun 15 May - from Cologne with wizzair
Mon 9 may - Mon 16 may from Dortmund with wizzair
sat 7 may - sat 14 may - from Nuremberg with wizzair
For all wizzair flights, fares are around or less than 100 Eur return if purchased in advance
Lufthansa flies every day from München to Cluj, so it is a good option
The codesprint will happen in a location close to the town center, so you can walk easily from many hotels located in the center. With the taxi being very cheap in Cluj, even if you stay outside the center the distance is not a problem.
Hotel Beyfin is very close from the codespring location and we recommend it.
Golden Tulip Ana Dome was a favorite for many of the attendants of [www.t3ee.org TYPO3 East Europe] for the last 3 years.
There are plenty of good hotels around town, for all budgets.
Costs and getting around:
Cluj-Napoca has plenty of good restaurants and a lot of pubs. It is a big University town, with about 100,000 students, and May is a great period to hang around at one of the many terrasses and clubs.
You can get one good meal for less € 10. One beer is € 2-3 in a pub.
A taxi from the airport to the center would cost around €6, or 25 RON.
The local currency is the Romanian Leu ( RON ). The current exchange rate ( in January ) is 4.5 RON for 1 €.
You can pay by card in most restaurants, bars, clubs and shops. You will need some cash for the taxis and minor expenses. At the airport you will find ATMs and exchange offices, take some cash but not much ( 200 RON or about € 50 should be enough for the start), if you would need more there are many ATMs in the town center.
The Romanian hosts would be happy to give any other info of interest, feel free to contact directly Daniel Homorodean from Arxia ( daniel[at]arxia.com )
